Geo-Trips :: The Cathedral to Castle road race

Lichfield

A walk from Lichfield, Sun, 26 Sep 2021 by Richard Law

A photographic record of the 2021 C2C (Lichfield Cathedral to Tamworth Castle) run. Normally this popular 10-mile event takes place each year in April, but the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic and associated restrictions on large gatherings and crowds put paid to it in both 2020 and early 2021. It was postponed until a pleasant day in late September 2021, and appeared to go off without significant hitches. The main change to previous years was that a staggered start was in operation, with those expecting the fastest times setting off around 08:30, whilst the slower runners were asked to delay their starts for a while, thus avoiding most of the common 'bunching' at pinchpoints. The (male) winner came into the finish at Tamworth in a very creditable 00:59:43, first female finished in 1:04:19, whilst those of us with more mortal legs, hearts and lungs staggered in about 25 mins or so after that. There were 884 finishers in total, and although the published distance calls it 10 miles, a couple of wrist-worn GPS units reckoned it's a little bit shy of that at about 9.9 miles in reality.
