Dredging Portrush harbour
Dredging Portrush harbour
In the days when Portrush harbour still handled commercial cargoes C8540 : The "Nordstar" at Portrush and being bounded by two sandy beaches C8540 : The West Strand, Portrush (4) and C8640 : The East Strand, Portrush (2) it needed frequent dredging. This was usually done by the Coleraine harbour dredger the “Bar Maid” (since sold).
The dredger "Bar Maid"

The “Bar Maid” was dredger, built by Cooks of Wivenhoe in 1977, for Coleraine Harbour Commissioners. Her main job was to maintain the navigable channel on the River Bann, between the Barmouth and Coleraine harbour, although she also undertook contract work elsewhere when requited. Sold in 2000.
