Wildgoose Lodge, Reaghstown, Co. Louth
To the right of the ash tree, a small plot surrounded by a hedge is the site of Wildgoose Lodge, the scene of a notorious atrocity on the night of 29-30 October 1816 in which eight people, including a child, died when the house was burned by members of an agrarian secret society. Eighteen local men were later executed for the murders.
