Since 1997 this is as far as the public has been able to approach the Old Head and its lighthouse. A private and very exclusive golf course was developed on the headland much to the disgust of the locals who are denied access to the beauty spot. There is a security man on the gate and barbed wire tops the walls of the old De Courcey Castle.
