T.S. 'Empire State' at Belfast [detail]
Detail of the training ship of the State University of New York Maritime College, officially known as the U.S.T.S. Empire State VI, seen on a visit to Belfast.
Originally launched as the SS 'Oregon' on September 16, 1961, the Empire State has been in operation by State University of New York Maritime College since December 31, 1989. The ship has seen active service supporting the withdrawal of American troops from Mogadishu, Somalia in 1994 and assisting in the clean-up operation following Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast in 2005.
