Ardfert Cathedral
Ardfert Cathedral
This walled ecclesiastical site is thought to date back to the C5th, and is dedicated to St Brendan the Navigator, a celtic saint whose Chronicles set out voyages around the Atlantic. LinkExternal link

The nave of the cathedral, right of centre, dates to the C13th and is roofless unlike the south transept, right, which is now used as an interpretation and reception area for the site. On the left can be seen the ruins of Temple na Hoe, an early Romanesque church. See Q7821 : Ardfert Cathedral

The cathedral and churches are not used for services, and are in the care of the Irish Office of Public Works, but the graveyard is still used by the local community.
