G5482 : Peat cutting

taken 24 years ago, 3 km from Glencolumbkille, Co Donegal, Ireland

Peat cutting
Peat cutting
The edge of a peat bog that has been cut for turf in the traditional way (vertical slices rather than horizontally by machine - this makes it easier for the surface to regenerate). Height of the cut is approx 6ft. Note pieces of bog-oak sticking out.
