'The Bend' at Cappoquin
For 100 km the River Blackwater flows eastwards, parallel to the mountain ridges of SW Ireland. At Cappoquin it turns abruptly south, cutting through four of these ridges to reach the sea at Youghal. Quite why it does this has taxed the minds of geographers for more than 150 years.
