Castles of Munster: Ballynahow, Tipperary
To the NW of Thurles is Ballynahow Castle, a C16 circular tower of the Purcells that rises over 50 feet to the wall-walk, off which are four evenly spaced machicolations. The lower rooms of this tower were inhabited as a cottage in the 1840s.
