The Buttercrane Shopping Centre
This is one of a number of new shopping centres in Newry which developed at the end of The Trounles as a part of the peace dividend. It houses such well known stores as M&S, Primark and Dunnes Stores as well as some 50 other outlets. It and the city's other new shopping centres not only serve the South Down and South Armagh regions but also attract hundreds of thousands of shoppers annually from across the border. Cross-border shoppers can pay for goods in Euros. In fact, 25% of the average takings of Newry businesses are in Euro. Gone are the days when the Irish Customs would tax or seize even a loaf of bread.
