View south along the Newry Canal from the Ballybot Bridge
As a schoolkid, I learned only two things about Newry (a) that it was somewhere across the Irish Sea and (b) that it had an important canal. The teacher who taught us seemed blissfully unaware as he drew his arrowed map of imports and exports on the blackboard that the 18 mile long canal had been largely disused since the 1930s.
