A big cow on the bank of the Dromore river
This expanding international milk factory which has been deposited beside a beautiful stretch of the Dromore river has become so huge that it appears here just like a modern battleship moored to the bank. The length of this Leviathan is further extended by the twenty giant blue milk bottles that it seems to be towing H5915 : Milk bottles?. But it’s the immense height of the factory which makes it such a distinctive but alien feature in our rural landscape H5916 : Farmland at Freame Mount and the Dartrey forestry estate beyond.
Factory facts: Abbott, founded in 1888, was a US company and is now a global concern employing 70,000 people worldwide. When the Cootehill factory opened in 1975 it employed 68 people. Currently over 250 work there, with nearly half the baby food they produce going to China and South-East Asia Link
