Clonmacnoise - Cross of Scriptures - East face
Clonmacnoise - Cross of Scriptures - East face
This one of Ireland's finest surviving High Crosses. It was carved about 900AD. It is a single stone more than 10 feet (possibly 13) high. It withstood the wind and rain for more than one thousand years and is still very well preserved. It was moved indoors and a replica stands in its place outdoors. The east face is in a better state of preservation than the west face.
