Above Grouse Lodge wind farm
Above Grouse Lodge wind farm
The distinctive road pattern below should have been spotted on the map and/or the aerial photo, but was not built in 2005 when they were surveyed. This is above Grouse Lodge wind farm, which is currently being constructed. The platform for the nearest turbine is at R250413, the point where the main track leaves the woodland is at R252416 and the quarry is centred at R251421. Grouse Lodge quarry has unearthed some interesting minerals, see LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) The road to the right is the R521 three kilometres north-west of Ardagh (which cannot be seen). Thanks again to A MacCarron for identifying the location.

Taken from a flight from Gatwick to Shannon that is turning to land in the less usual north-easterly direction. This was the day before most European airspace was closed for six days due to an ash cloud caused by a volcanic eruption in Iceland.
