A small group of houses at a crossroads forms the village of Newtownfortesque, located in Grangegeeth townland. The 1st edition O.S. six-inch map, surveyed in 1836, shows a row of houses, possibly including this one, extending to the crossroads. In the south-east angle of the crossroads is marked 'Site of Old Castle'.
