The Red Ensign, Whitehead
The Red Ensign, Whitehead
Officially the flag flown by the UK Merchant Navy except that (save for Caledonian MacBrayne and some Cunard cruise ships) there really isn’t one anymore. May be flown by UK yacht clubs (this one is at the County Antrim Yacht Club) and is sometimes defaced by the club’s emblem or arms. Flag etiquette requires that the national ensign should be kept clean and in good repair – as in this case. Often known as the “red duster”.
