Augustinian Abbey and mill, Fethard, Co. Tipperary
Augustinian Abbey and mill, Fethard, Co. Tipperary
The abbey was founded by Augustinian Friars in 1305, but with alterations in the 15C. It was in private ownership from the Dissolution, and Cromwell's troops occupied it briefly in 1650. The church was re-established c.1820, and the west tower was removed and the street front rebuilt in 1835. To the right is a tall mill building, with 'RH 1847' over the door.
