Old night safe, Belfast
Old night safe, Belfast
Former night safe on the Skipper Street side of the Merchant Hotel J3474 : The Merchant Hotel, Belfast (former headquarters of the Ulster Bank). The safe bears the name 'John Tann Ltd.' of London. The company was founded in London in 1795 and primarily produced safes for many major financial institutions, including the Bank of England. From what I can establish, the company merged with Rosengrens of Sweden in 1990 to form 'Rosengrens-Tann' LinkExternal link which still trades today, although I have also found the Austrian company 'John-Tann' LinkExternal link which also produces safes. Clarifications welcomed.
