G9393 : Bog wood

taken 13 years ago, 8 km WSW of Commeen, Co Donegal, Ireland

Bog wood
Bog wood
A mixed collection of scrap wood, including fence posts and roots from the adjacent bog. The roots are the remains of trees that were killed by the onset of wet conditions which initiated growth of the moss and formation of the bog that is found today. That event is measured to be around 4000 years before present, so these are very interesting roots. Cars are parked at the side of the road close to an intersection with the Sli na Finne walking route.
