Headstone, Movilla Abbey, Newtownards (1)
A headstone marking the grave of Patrick McCutcheon who died on 25 June 1792 and his two children John and Mary.
Movilla Abbey, Newtownards

The site dates back to the 6th century and a monastery founded by St Finian. It was attacked and plundered by the Vikings in the 9th century before being re-founded in the 12th century as an Augustinian Abbey.
The ruined church is of 13th century origin, rebuilt in the 15th century. The grounds include a graveyard in use until very recent times.
Now, unfortunately, surrounded by suburban housing.
