Over the 19th and 20th centuries this pier was a point of departure for emigrant ships bound for Canada and America. Of the hundreds and thousands of Irish who left their homeland to make the arduous journey, many settled in the Province of New Brunswick, Canada where they left an indelible mark on that province and nation."
