The Steam Museum, Straffan
This is an excellent museum adjoining Lodge Park Walled Garden, Straffan and is home to several excellent model and full sized steam engines. This is a horizontal single cylinder Corliss valve engine by Victor Coates of Belfast and built in 1900. It was used by Frazer & Haughton Ltd, Culleybackey, Co Antrim. The cylinder is 18" x 30" and it developed 100 horsepower at 90 rpm on steam at 100 psi. The flywheel is 10' diameter and grooved for 6 driving ropes. Because the valve gear is against the wall, the museum has arranged a mirror to show it in action.
