Whitrope Tunnel
Whitrope Tunnel
This photograph of the north portal was taken in 1995 when access into the tunnel was still possible. The north and south portals are now fenced over to prevent access for safety reasons. At 1208 yards (1104m) the tunnel is the fourth longest in Scotland and a Grade B listed structure. The Waverley Line was closed in 1969 but volunteers of the Waverley Route Heritage Association have laid some track up to the south portal.
