at Ardee with the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland’s “Slieve Gullion” railtour. The grain silos (background above the carriages) were one of the reasons why the branch survived into the 1970’s.
The Dromin - Ardee railway
The 4˝ mile branch from Dromin Junction, between Dunleer and Castlebellingham, opened in 1896 and closed to passengers in 1934. It remained open for goods finally closing in 1975.
