Castlerea station opened in 1860 as part of the Great Northern & Western’s line (sometimes known as “Lord Lucan’s line” after George Bingham, 3rd Earl of Lucan LinkExternal link who promoted the line) from Athlone to Westport. The train is the 13.35 Westport – Dublin Heuston hauled by 074. Three years later M6879 : Train at Castlerea station Mayo passengers had the benefit of air-conditioned stock.
