In the days before the building of the cross-harbour line J3474 : Belfast Cross Harbour Links from Central to Yorkgate, all transfers of rolling stock, based at Central Service Depot, Belfast J3574 : Bridge End station and service depot , Belfast, going to York Road workshops had to make the long journey via Lisburn, Antrim and Bleach Green (some 45 miles instead of the two by the cross-harbour line). In this cast DH locomotive no 3 is transferring MPD power cars nos 64 and 65, DE motor coach 77 and intermediate no 727.

"DH" locomotives, Northern Ireland Railways

A class of three diesel-hydraulic six-coupled locomotives introduced by NIR in 1969 built by English Electric/AEI with a 620hp Dorman engine. They were mainly used for permanent way trains and shunting and were withdrawn between 1986 and 1989. This link Link has more information about their life after withdrawal.
