Downhill Railway Tunnel
Railway tunnel through cliffs at Downhill which runs directly below Mussenden Temple. The tunnel, 275 metres in length, was blasted in 1846 and apparently attracted crowds of up to 12,000. Upon completion 500 people celebrated at a huge banquet held within the tunnel itself, an event that became known as the 'Great Blast'.
