The Silvermines branch near Nenagh
The Silvermines line was a short branch of 1¼ miles, running south east off the Ballybrophy – Killonan line, at Silvermines Jct, between Nenagh and Birdhill. It opened in 1966 to serve a barytes mine. The mine and branch closed in 1993. The photograph shows locomotive no 044 at the head of a laden train, to Foymes harbour, near the junction. The Google map and the satellite photograph do not coincide. Positioned using the former.
