Common red soldier beetle (Rhagonycha fulva)
Pictured in a garden at Knockgreenan in Omagh. The plant is a variety of potentilla. It certainly flowers enough and it is very unlikely that the beetle was doing it any harm. They consume grasshopper eggs, aphids, caterpillars and other soft bodied insects, most of which are pests.
The adults are especially important predators of aphids. They supplement their diet with nectar and pollen and can be minor pollinators
