Railtour at Carroll's Cross near Kilmeadan
On 24 July 1982 the Irish Railway Record Society organised a “farewell” railtour from Waterford to Ballinacourty X3092 : Former magnesite plant, Ballinacourty to mark the closing of the line (a remnant of the direct line from Mallow, via Dungarvan, to Waterford). On the outward journey the opening of the level crossing gates at Carroll’s Cross had been hindered as part of a protest against the closure. After some discussions we were able to proceed.
