Captain Griffith Stanley Jones Master Mariner of Llanaelhaearn, Caernarvonshire was the son of Captain William Jones and Mary Jones. He was lost in September 1940 when the merchant vessel Manchester Brigade was sunk by an U-boat off the Irish coast. The gravestone bears the inscription (in Welsh)- the lines of a hymn by the poet Morgan Rhys (1716-1779)
"Yna canaf am Dy waed,
Nes meddiannu'r nefol wlad".
which can be translated as
Then shall I sing of Your blood,
Till I come into the heavenly country
Capt. Jones is commemorated on the war memorial at Llanaelhaearn.
