taken 31 years ago, near to Caher, Co Tipperary, Ireland

Cahir Castle bailey
Cahir Castle bailey
One of Ireland's largest and best preserved castles it features an anti-clockwise ascending spiral staircase. It was built in this sinister fashion because the family in residence were left handed and could thus use their sword hand within the outside of the stair. There has been a defensive structure on the site since 1142 but the present castle dates from the 13th C.
