Photo suggestion. There is a former toll-house at ST997617, in the fork of the A361 and A342 roads on the western outskirts of Devizes. It is called Shane's Castle due to its castellations and Gothic architecture, of the early 19C. It ceased to be a toll-house in 1899, but has been lived in ever since, its thick walls shielding the occupants from the traffic noise.
