Part of an official mural now being painted on the down platform at Sydenham station. It depicts the steam-turbine powered ship “Canberra” LinkExternal link delivered by Harland &Wolff in 1961. Employment reached over 20,000 during construction, a peak after which it gradually declined until the last ship “Anvil Point” LinkExternal link in 2003. The vessel later became famous as the “Great White Whale” of the Falklands War LinkExternal link. See also LinkExternal link.
