Memorial Stone, Bruckless Bay disaster
Memorial Stone, Bruckless Bay disaster
This memorial to the event in 1813 when a large fleet of vessels were lost to sea is in Irish and English, the latter includes the following text:

This memorial is dedicated to the memory of the fishermen who lost their lives when 200 sailing boats capsized in a sudden storm in Bruckless Bay on February 11th 1813.
May they rest for ever in the peace of Christ.

They are not forgotten, nor will they ever be, as long as life and memories last we will remember them and all who lost their lives at sea.

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied

(J.Masefield)
