Cliff fall on the East Cliff - update Sep 2016 (1)
Five months on and a considerable amount of work has taken place here since the cliff fall of 24 April. The clear-up began soon after the area at the top and bottom of the cliff was secured in order to protect the public. One hundred and forty tonnes of rubble was removed using a mobile crane the height of 10 double-decker buses. Biodegradable coir matting was then fitted to the exposed face of the cliff to protect it from the elements. After consultation with a specialist engineer, work began to remove the damaged cliff lift carriages by sending an abseiling team down to secure the carriages to the running rails, prior to them being carefully removed for repair and storage.
