Civil Bombing Decoy (C Series): DoB ID: e18764
This is the control building for a WWII bombing decoy site, the sole survivor of a series of civil decoys for the town of Yeovil that were designed to divert enemy bombing from the Westland Aircraft factory. The site operated at night time only as both a 'QF' and a 'QL' decoy, the former produced a series of controlled fires from various sources, the latter would have simulated the lighting from a reconstructed Westland factory during an inadequate blackout. The control building has a blast wall protected central entrance leading to the control room on the left, and to a generator room on the right. It would have also provided the crew with a hardened shelter that was covered by earth banking. Records show that the site was operational between 1942 and 1943.
