SJ7694 : Gloucester House Medical Centre SJ7694 : Gloucester House: Coat of arms Gloucester House, Urmston
Research reveals that this house was built in the 1880s for the Mayne family, and was where Dr Walter Furlong Mayne practised as a GP for the next 50 years. Old photos on the Trafford Council's website show that the house originally had a detached stable/carriage block to its left, and the gentleman was regularly seen mounted on his horse in the streets around Urmston.
The shield on the Gloucester House facade may be connected to the affluent doctor's family therefore; although the Mayne heraldic arms as portrayed elsewhere on the web bear no resemblance to the photo above.
