Castles of Munster: Monteen, Cork
Castles of Munster: Monteen, Cork
Almost completely covered in ivy, these are the remains of Monteen Castle, a four storey rectangular tower house built sometime between 1346 and the mid-C15. Changing hands several times in the turbulent C16 and C17, it suffered being burnt in 1600, and again in 1690 following the Battle of the Boyne.
