Brick Lough
Brick Lough
Brick Lough is a petite picturesque lake, circa 220 metres x 85 metres, that is situated 1 km south east of Loughrea lake. How it obtained its name is unknown to me. The name is found on the 1830s Ordnance Survey map and it has also been recorded as Breek Lough. Though not apparent from the image, the trees immediately to the west of the lake are on the end-slope of a hill. Access to this lake is via a farm entrance and track leading up to a farmhouse - perhaps it is a private lake? The serene water, the pair of swans in the distance, and two children playing on the western shore were reminiscent of a Constable painting.
