A temporary (yellow) sign at the northern end of this lay-by J3189 : Lay-by, Bruslee near Ballynure (June 2017). NI has a higher number of unclassified minor side roads than just about anywhere in GB. The new dual carriageway, with the abolition of right turns, has meant the closure of many accesses and the diversion of traffic to a much smaller number of “LI-LO” (left in-left out) junctions. Dual carriageway to Larne

One 1 May 2012 the Minister for Regional Development announced that the rebuilding of the remaining stretch single carriageway on the Belfast – Larne Road had been approved. It involves nine miles “of new dual carriageway from Coleman’s Corner Roundabout to Ballyrickard Road. Work on the dual carriageway is expected to start in June this year and take two and a half years to complete”. Most of the proposed route will follow the existing alignment. One main exception being at Ballynure where it will bypass the village on the western side.
The photographs submitted by me appear as a matter of neutral record only. I have no connection with the Roads Service or the contractors and express no opinions, for or against, the proposal. The captions are based on my reading of the official scheme map and might not always be accurate.
Further information about the scheme is available at this (unofficial) link LinkExternal link.
Description amended 6 March 2016: the ceremonial start of work was on 15 October 2012 with the cutting of the opening tape on 20 December 2015. As is usual in roads of this type various parts were in use before the official opening.
