The East Coast Main Line seen from Holmegreen Level Crossing
Holmegreen Level Crossing is at the end of a track called Sheep Walk which is a cul-de-sac off Langford Road. The gates are hand operated by the user and a green light indicates it is safe to cross quickly over the East Coast Main Line. There are also separate pedestrian gates. There are four tracks - the nearest one being the up slow, then the up fast, the down fast and the down slow furthest from the camera. The next station in this direction is Biggleswade. This is in the middle of a very long straight so trains coming through can reach their full speed of 140 mph.
Beyond the crossing to the right is a network of footpaths to the south of Biggleswade and west of the A1.
