Now in the chancel of
SO2767 : St David's Church in Whitton / Eglwys Llanddewi yn Hwytyn, this was brought from
SO2568 : St Mary, Pilleth after that church was unroofed by a fire in 1894, and underwent restoration in 1908. Richard Haslam in 1979 noted that the female figures flanking the inscription held a skull and a bird, but these seem to have disappeared.
"To the piovs Memmory of Iohn
Price of Pilleth Esq. and
of Catherine his wife, the
davghter of Roger Vavghan
of Clitherow in the Covnty
of Radnor Esq. Hee departed
this Mortall life the 16th day
of September Anno Dom. 1597
And shee deceased in the yeare
of our Lord God 1589."
I am unable to identify " Clitherow in the Covnty of Radnor" unless it is Clyro /Cleirwy in
SO2143.
