Geograph - photograph every grid square

The tiny settlement of Heyope (sometimes written without the final -e) is the location of the mother church for the larger village of Knucklas (Cnwclas), a mile or so to the east. Like many churches in this border area, it was rebuilt on the old foundations in the later 19th century. The architect here was John Loughborough Pearson and the work was completed in 1882, adhering to the style of the previous 15th-century building which had no division between nave and chancel. The old screen, partly renewed by Pearson, dates from the late 15th century with five Perpendicular lights on each side of the triangular doorway. The pulpit is Victorian but decorated with carvings inspired by the tracery of the screen.
