This locally sourced stone which stands in the station plaza area commemorates the opening of the Borders Railway by The Queen on 9th September 2015.
The inscription reads:

On 9 September 2015
HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN
accompanied by
HRH THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH
and
Rt Hon NICOLA STURGEON MSP
First Minister of Scotland
opened the BORDERS RAILWAY
The opening of the
BORDERS RAILWAY
is the culmination of a Community led
Campaign to restore a Railway to the
Communities of the
SCOTTISH BORDERS
and MIDLOTHIAN
after an absence of 46 Years
The BORDERS RAILWAY
is the longest domestic Railway to be
constructed in the
UNITED KINGDOM for 100 Years
and the Opening took place on the day
HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN
became the longest reigning
