Lough Nahinch is a small lake in a boggy landscape in east County Galway. Its name probably means lake of the island. There is one very prominent island in the lake. From its distance from shore (far enough away but not too far) and its general shape, this may be a small artificial island (Crannog). Crannogs are often found in small lakes and tend to be circular or oval. Currently, I do not have factual evidence to corroborate this suggestion. Unlike the numerous bog lakes which abound in Connemara in the west of the county, this east Galway bog lake is "isolated" with no other lakes nearby.
