Abington Park

Abington Park was created by the Thursby family in the late 1600s. It was given to the people of Northampton by Lady Wantage and opened in 1897. The park contains the ruins of the former village of Abington and the former manor house, which was a lunatic asylum between 1845 and 1892, is now a museum. The park also features a café, bandstand, tennis, bowling, sports pitches and duck ponds. The golf course and boating lake are now disused. There is also a dovecote and a number of aviaries.
