Inside St Govan's Chapel
This shows the inside of the chapel, looking towards the altar. There are many legends associated with this place but fewer hard facts; it is believed that St Govan lived here in a cave in the 6th century, and the chapel, which dates from the 13th century, was built to honour him. There would seem to be little other reason to build it in such a remote and inaccessible spot. Today, however, there are plenty of tourists willing to climb down steps to view the chapel and, of course, climb back up again.
