The 'Highland Chieftain' service from King's Cross to Inverness pulls into Waverley station about two hours late after a train failure near Berwick caused major disruption of services on the East Coast Main Line. Several trains were cancelled but I was fortunate that my train to Inverness was still operating!

A. Because it was traditionally kept five minutes fast to encourage travellers to be on time for their (North British) trains at nearby Waverley station.
