The Queen Mother's Garden, Walmer Castle
Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was Warden of the Cinque Ports from 1978 until her death in 2002, to celebrate her 95th birthday English Heritage commissioned Penelope Hobhouse to design a garden in the walled garden. The Queen Mother declared, “I have been given many presents before, but never a garden.” Here Walmer Castle and what appears to be a kind of loggia can be seen reflected in the pond.
